Meta Expands Threads Integration with Instagram Stories to Boost User Growth

Meta’s Threads app, already boasting over 400 million monthly users, is making it even easier for users to share content across its platforms. This week, the company introduced a new feature allowing Threads posts to be shared directly to Instagram Stories without leaving the Threads app. Users can now preview how a post will appear on their Story within Threads itself.

Previously, Threads allowed sharing posts to Instagram Stories, the Feed, or direct messages, but the new update streamlines the process, improving cross-platform engagement and leveraging Instagram’s larger user base to attract more users to Meta’s Twitter-like app.

Launched in July 2023, Threads benefited from its integration with Instagram, allowing users to sign up using their Instagram credentials and instantly follow the accounts they already followed on Instagram. Over time, Meta has continued to grow Threads by showcasing posts on Facebook and Instagram, and enabling cross-posting from its larger platforms.

The strategy appears to be paying off. Data from Similarweb indicates that Threads now surpasses Elon Musk’s X in daily mobile usage, though X maintains a lead on the web. Overall, Threads’ monthly active users have doubled from 200 million in August 2024 to 400 million in August 2025, with 150 million daily active users reported in October 2025.
